Maverick (now Capone)

Maverick (now Capone)

Just wanted to let you know that Capone, FKA Maverick, has gone to the Rainbow Bridge, he passed last weekend, at home, from a very short, but aggressive bout with Hemaingiosarcoma. He was the picture of health for the short 5 years we adored him. Then just out of the blue, in March, he developed a lump, which 3 different vets all agreed that is was a lipoma. It was not. And when I tell you it was fast and wicked, it was. As a pathologist that I work with, for humans, said, if you have to have cancer, that’s the one you don’t want.  We did two surgeries on him, one in April, and one in June, as it had reoccured, as we were told it would.

They suggested therapy for him, which we would have done in a New York minute, but the outcome was so poor, we chose not to. We didn’t want his time to be spent, sick or visiting a vet every week. And I can assure you he lived life to the fullest, and the only bad habit he had was licking his legs and feet. Other than that, he was just perfect.

To say we are going to miss our “Bubba” is an understatement. I think it has finally hit the rest of our dogs, as they just haven’t been themselves the last few days. I guess we all have to adjust.

Here are a few pics of him, the first one is him and Sheldon, two peas in a pod.

Maverick has been adopted! From his foster momma: Maverick joined his new family this past weekend and will know nothing but love. He joined an amazing family who were so excited to bring him home.

Welcome 11-month-old Maverick to Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue. He is a very handsome, active and playful youngster. His family did not have to time to devote to his training, so he still needs some work on house training, and other puppy behaviors. Stay tuned for more details.

2/20/17 Update:  Maverick is such a sweet guy and doing well in rescue. He has even put on a few needed pounds. He is doing great with house training and walking on a leash. But more than anything, he loves to run and play. He would be ideal for an active family looking for a playmate. With other dogs, even aggressive ones, he reacts in a very submissive, calm manner. He had a chance to spend a day with a foster family with two puppies half his age, and you have never seen such fun! He is a young and good looking boy and will turn 1 year old on April 13. He would love to celebrate that birthday in your home.
