Walter

When I left the farm, I road shotgun to make sure I was leaving. And I never looked back.

Yes, I left Green Acres and those farm dogs behind. Farm dogs, cow dogs, herding dogs… whatever they are. I left them all behind, so they could continue to herd things, just not me! I hated being herded and I think they hated me.

A few years back, my mom died and I moved to the farm with some relatives.

Farm life was fun – for a while. Then once the dogs realized I was built different and I didn’t know how to herd, they started picking on me.

You might see the scars on my face? I couldn’t really fight back. Those herding dogs have long faces and when they latch on, they mean business. Me, with my flat face, didn’t stand a chance.

Oh, I tried to fit in because I reminded the family that I was the last thing my mom had before she passed away. But try as I might, it just was not a good living arrangement. The people loved me and I loved them. But those dogs? They just never really understood me.

When I sit with Dr. Larsen, she will tell me I look amazing and she will help me heal. I may not have ever been cut out for the farm life, but I’m one fantastic shot gun rider!

6/9/22 Update:   I’m staying in the main bedroom in my foster home. Foster Mom says this is the medical ward, where all the pups recover from surgeries and etc.

Dr. Lay did my soft palate, ear hematoma and neuter surgeries on May 31. I am recovering nicely and Foster Mom feeds me just soft food by hand with my medicine crushed inside.

In a few weeks, I will have to start my heartworm treatment. I’m not looking forward to that, but I will be looking through the approved applications when I am done. I am an easy-going boy and love to be by my people.

I do have a favorite spot to do my business outside. I go to the lavender bush, sniff it and then proceed to “water” it. Sometimes two or three times. I heard they need lots of water!

I’ll keep everyone posted on my progress.

7/9/22 Update:  Walter here letting you know that I am doing great on my recovery from palette surgery.  I am still eating soft food,  just to make sure all heals good.  I am a great house guest and I do my part in picking up “stray toys”.  I always seem to find some on the way outside,  so I make sure to pick them up on the way back to my room.  I have a whole collection in my crate!  I specialize in finding the soft ones.  I have collected piggies, snakes, sloths, but my favorite is my hedgehog!

I have to go next week to the clinic to start my heartworm treatment, then 30 days rest and I will be ready to look thru applications for my new family & home.  I am good with most of the house dogs, even the littlest Frenchie,  just still not fond of the Scottie.

9/9/22 Update:  I want to let you know that I am still looking for my furever family.

I have decided that I like other Bulldogs, but other dogs with “long” noses are a “no go!” I think they remind me too much of my past on the farm and being “bullied.”

I am the best boy and go about my days looking out the windows, playing with my toys and snoozing. I like to bark for my meals. A few of the other Bulldogs here at the foster home do too, so I am just going with the flow…

Oh, and I love to give hugs.  Walter
