ON TEMPORARY MEDICAL HOLD!
When the shelter sent the picture my first thought was “how can this happen?” And my second thought was “Evil is alive and well.”
A couple years ago this bulldog had been reported as “lost or stolen.” And on Tuesday she was surrendered to a local animal control. “Surrendered” might not be the correct term, but it is the term on her paperwork. You see a Judge already had the paperwork to proceed with Animal Cruelty charges against the owner to remove her and other dogs from the home. The family was given the choice of surrender or pressing charges. They surrendered. The people were breeding “shorty bulls.” And Thelma was the bulldog they bred to the pit.
When Thelma was scanned, she had a microchip. The listed family was called, but they decided she needed more help than they could give.
When I met her on Thursday, she broke my heart. A 32lb. shell of a bulldog. She walks toward you with her head down. But she gets so excited when you pet her.
Thelma Louise is 4 years old. Thelma has bite marks all over her. Thelma will never know abuse again. Thelma was saved and her new life has begun. And for all the bulldogs out there living Thelma Louise’s life we are coming for you. Don’t give up.
8/26/22 Update: Dr. Larsen feels like she has been bred a lot. She has had multiple c-sections, but they are old and she does not feel like she has had one in a while. Her bloodwork shows she is anemic, with a high white cell count. Hookworms and whip worms. Her face will heal and have some scaring. It is still very swollen. She need to be fattened back up before any type of surgery if it is needed. We can do bloodwork to see if she has been spayed or not. We will repeat her full panel bloodwork in 60 days. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved.
10/3/22 Update: Look how beautiful foster girl Thelma Louise is looking! She’s like a whole new dog.
